Being cashed up might not be such a good thing after all! Well that is if you keep your wallet in your back pocket and sit on it regularly. If you’re one of those guys that creaks and groans each time he gets out of his car, or is experiencing headaches, neck/back pain, sciatica, hip problems, knee problems, or other issues with the lower limbs - it could be that you have been sitting on your wallet for way toooo long…… The pelvis is supposed to provide a stable foundation for the rest of the spinal column, but sitting on your wallet raises up one side of the pelvis by as much as an inch (or perhaps more if you’ve had a good day at the races!). Not only can this compromise the optimal functioning of the spinal column, but it can also create compression of the sciatic nerve which can cause excruciating pain and numbness down the legs.
So what are your options? Move the wallet to your front pocket – or put it in the console of your car when driving, and for the office workers, leave it in your desk drawer while at work. Or if you’re going out and want to get out of paying for the next shout – tell them you had to leave your wallet at home on the advice of your Osteopath ;) Dr Carlie Hallyburton Osteopath
