Rebecca MilhamNaturopath and Nutritionist Have you ever noticed how amazingly powerful your mind is when you allow it to be free from all the background noise of everyday life?
My best ideas and inspiration come to me when I’m either walking the dog, or in the shower! Both places where there's no housework, no technology, no kids (my kids are past the age of wandering into the bathroom to talk to me while I shower), and none of the million other things that take up space in my head during the rest of the day. The things that come to me in these moments of quietness are very varied in nature! It could be something for the kids, something for my business, something for my husband’s business, something for myself or something for a friend…. Here’s just some of the things that came to me on this morning’s walk….
I know that some of you may think that I’ve defeated the purpose of all this quiet time by filling my mind with so many things, but that’s how my mind works. Genuine actual stillness of my mind is very hard to achieve! To all the beautiful practitioners at my clinic who have tirelessly tried to get me into meditation classes, I sincerely apologise. I promise it is something I am working towards, and I know that learning to meditate would allow me many more opportunities for a quiet mind.... but for now I love how just removing distraction from my life can give me clarity on so many things. My next step.......get my kids to learn to appreciate a quiet mind as well. Hopefully inspiration on how to do that strikes me on my next walk!!!
