What About Me?  Time to Hit the Reset Button...

​Have you ever found yourself in that place where enough is enough!!  Life is fully on top of you and it seems that the slightest mishap will have you plummeting over the edge into mind numbing, body twitching lunacy.  It’s all way too hard and you can’t and don’t want to keep up anymore.  You’ve lost yourself and you’ve lost your glimmer.  Your capacity to function at your best in all the many and varied roles you keep has totally deserted you.  Life has lost its shine and you finally KNOW the true understanding of what it feels like to exist in the ‘rat race’.  What a hopeless place to be!  STUCK STUCK, STUCK, POWERLESS TO MOVE.  We need to pay the bills, raise the kids, keep up social commitments, get a bigger and better house,  attend to our friendships,  throw a bone to our significant other, keep fit, eat well, take time out for ourselves.  Are you KIDDING me – Take time out for WHO?  I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHO THAT IS ANYMORE.  
Yet it is in being , knowing and honouring our ‘WHO AM I’ that we can create and relish a  life full of the relief of financial stability, healthy happy kids that are living at their fullest potential,  connect and learn from the people that surround us and make up our community,  take time-out and away in the comfort of our homes.  Enjoy the heartfelt connections we have with our closest friends.   Deeply feel the intimacy we share with our partner and have that burning desire to create memories together with them day after day.  Voluntarily choose to feed ourselves natural healthy foods and activities that nurture and support our bodies.  A lifestyle that has us creating our joy and living the dream.
So how do we turn the tables?    Well yes there will be some casualties and a few losses yet nothing as soul destroying as the loss of self!
WE COMMIT.
We COMMIT to owning our TIME.
We COMMIT to saying NO.
We COMMIT to setting BOUNDARIES
We COMMIT to being, knowing and honouring OURSELVES.
Time is of the essence so we choose to take our time back. 
If we have to, we physically book ourselves in with a TIME slot on our calender.   Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly slots, honouring ourselves.
The practicalities are doable and may look something like this …..
(Especially for first timers)
  • Mentally set a boundary that you are going to commit to giving yourself a full day from waking to sleeping.  This means that you will be saying NO to every other activity and person.  (Pre – empting this TIME-OUT you can organise all that needs to be done for that day prior – or really throw caution to the wind and think it will all be there tomorrow to get on with and not worry about the fall out)

  • Physically set your boundary – telling anyone that wants you on that day that you are not available. (Personally – I  love Fridays – Fridays are MY day).  This is your line in the sand you have an appointment with yourself today.

    • On your first day with yourself take time to remember what it is that you do that really makes your heart sing and your soul soar (having a pen and paper to write your recollections can help you concrete your intention to start getting back to yourself) ….. it might be something as simple as listening to music, taking a walk on the beach, googling interesting topics, investigating abandoned houses, taking a drive down the coast, washing the car, hanging with the pets, getting lost in a book …..  WHAT IS YOUR THING!  REMEMBER WHAT IT IS and then take the time TO DO IT!

    • This day isn’t the day of HAVE TO’S it is the day of WANT TO’S if all you want to do today is lie in bed that is fine.  Today is your day.   Maybe next time you will choose a different WANT TO.   The beauty of the reset is that you get to CHOOSE what you are going to do and anything goes .  Submerge yourself in you and your thing for 24hrs and then the rest of the week doesn’t need to be such a chore you have more to give because you are running on full rather than empty.

    • Take this idea and break it down into chunks anywhere from 5 – 60min a day.   And yes it is as simple as it sounds -  even if it is a matter of listening to your favourite tune uninterrupted.  A lot of it is in the allowing.  Allowing you to have some time with you just being.  No interruptions, no expectations, no demands, no hassles.   Really what is life all about if not to take our time to enjoy all that we are and all that we can share?

    • The idea is to be giving yourself small amounts of time daily larger amounts of time once a week a bigger amount of time once a month into a getaway at least once a year.  Beware - doing the things you love can be addictive!

    • Reciprocate the time flow…. Respect and accept those you are surrounded by to have their time too.

    • When you have got the hang of hangin with yourself you will find that at times you do choose to take on a chore on your day or catch up with friends, do someone a favour, finish the reno or whatever may be going on in your life right now.  The difference here is that you CHOSE to do it.  You wanted to spend your time this way. 
     
    With Christmas and New Year hot on our heels maybe now is the perfect opportunity for you to hit the reset button and make 2016 the year for YOU.  Maybe the first question you can ask yourself when you sit down on your first appointment with yourself is WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
