Depending on how much you know about probiotics I may, or may not, be about to rock your world….!

We have ummmed and aaahed about writing this blog all week, purely because we don’t want our message to be misinterpreted.
So before we go any further let us clarify one very important fact….WE ARE NOT ANTI-VACCINE, nor are we PRO-VACCINE. We are PRO-CHOICE. You know when you buy a pet for the first time and you religiously google what it can and can’t eat?
For example - here’s what you might find if you were to google what to feed your new pet dog: There’s a reason they call it the Silly Season. The festive period turns rational level headed adults into crazed gift buying machines, and it’s the time of year when any child old enough to write suddenly has the ability to write a Christmas list worthy of winning a Booker Prize.
We’ll get back to the list making later, but for now, let’s stop and think about the commercialisation of Christmas…… So I’ve been wanting to write this blog for a while, then I woke up this morning and saw that a guru of the natural medicine field in the U.S has written something very similar on his Facebook page yesterday! But I will chalk that down to great minds thinking alike and persist ;)
There are two separate issues I have, and both relate to fundraising for chronic conditions so bear with me! What if everything we thought about Folic Acid was wrong?
Lately in the Naturopathic community you can barely go past a seminar, webinar or network group without hearing ‘MTHFR’ being bandied about – and no….. that is not some new acronym we use to swear at each other, MTHFR stands for methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase and it is a very important gene when it comes to our health and wellbeing. Ok - so even as I write my title I know that it sounds a little odd - but give me a chance to explain!
Many people come to see a Naturopath as they have been unwell for some time. During an initial consultation, I will ask if they have had blood tests done recently, and quite often the answer is ‘Yes - but they all came back fine’. I always ask to get a copy anyway, which I’m sure seems odd to many people but there’s good reason. Have you tried all the different weight loss shakes and wondered why they work only temporarily? (or not at all!) Or maybe they’ve worked, but you’ve ended up feeling sicker than you did before you lost the weight?
Here’s 5 reasons why I am not a fan of any of the weight loss shakes I have come across so far (I have many more, but didn’t want to bore you all): THE TRUTH ABOUT ‘CAPS’ AND ‘TABS’ - what you need to know before you take those supplements…23/7/2014 Okay – so we are well aware ‘practitioner only’ supplements can be more expensive than the over the counter variety (and there can even be a big difference in price between different over the counter brands), and it can be hard to see the benefits of paying extra for what essentially appears to be the same thing……BUT – many of the over counter products are not what they appear to be!
I have a guilty secret. Once a month I go to one of the big chain supermarkets and stock up on food for my pantry. Yes - I try to buy local, and yes - I like to support small business - but every now and then I just need to go and buy some of the stuff that is hard to get anywhere else all under the one roof!
I try to do this as little as possible for 2 reasons: |
